Brechtje was Stefaan's girlfriend, with whom Frie has always been passionate. At the turn of the year 2000, Brechtje mysteriously disappeared. She was found dead days later. Brechtje's father, Marc was a famous animal activist and made several enemy farmers, including Guy Vanneste. Investigations surround Guy, but they could never blame him. Brechtje's murderer was never found.
Frie marries Stefaan, and 16 years late, they have a daughter, Ross. While Frie is pregnant, Stefaan divorces her to live with his lover Margot. Frie is depressed, and loses Ross's custody to Stefaan. One night, at Stefaan's house, Ross is found with her throat cut by a shard of broken window glass. Margot's mother Lutgard comes to the aid of Ross, but she dies in the hospital.
Frie ends up being accused and convicted of the two crimes. Now it is up to the group of 12 ordinary people to decide whether they are guilty or not.
Among them are Holly, the first drawn, who becomes the leader of the jury. Holly has a traumatic past and is challenged by Carl, who is an "expert" in Trials and dreams of being the leader of the jury. He asks Bjorn for help. Joeri is desperate to take the employee to a hospital, but Bjorn says that they cannot do anything, as the worker is illegal. Holly's secret is exposed by Noel to Fabrice, a journalist friend. She was brutally attacked with her parents at her home and only she survived in a case that gained national repercussion. She changed her surname to not be recognized, but the ghost of the past haunts her. Donald, the police officer, remembers when he talked to Marc about Guy Vanneste, the suspect of killing Brechtje. Donald says he has no evidence against Guy, but Marc wants him arrested for his daughter's death. And he offers to pay Donald a sum to incriminate his rival. Marc delivers the video of the party to Ari. Frie's lawyer has evidence against Stefaan. Joeri says he told Holly about Gustavo, the dead employee. The press leaks Marc's affair with Inge, his lawyer. By law, a lawyer cannot have any relationship with her client. In order not to harm the trial, the Judge makes an agreement with the prosecutor and the defense and Inge will only be removed from the trial. Your assistant will take over. Professor Ulrich testifies. Ari wants to know if he fucked Brechtje. Ulrich admits. Ulrich was the father of Brechtje's baby. Stefaan is now suspected of killing Brechtje. Tommy goes to the Berlin Zoo. Holly is going to talk to Joeri. She never told anyone. She always said she came home with her parents dead. They don't all need to agree with the verdict, the simple majority is enough. The tie innocents the defendant. The 5-7 loss is considered a simple majority and forces the judge and two other assistants to vote. Noel asks the Judge what happens if someone leaks information to the press. The Judge says he would be invalidated and the first reserve judge would take his place. Noel remembers what happened last night, after Mike assaulted Delphine. Noel took the children and Delphine to sleep at his house and Delphine says - "the funniest thing is that I lost my life, and I'm not even going to vote." Noel tells the Judge that he was responsible for the leaks to the press and is replaced by Delphine.

With Frie's innocence in Ross's death, the question remains - who killed her? Margot distrusts Stefaan. Brechtje and Ross' death is cleared up in a flashback.
