Plot:
Betty Theissen runs her father-in-law’s company and is completely devoted to the role. Her husband, Herbert, on the other hand, takes little interest in the construction business; in fact, his lavish lifestyle is jeopardizing the company’s survival. That is certainly how Betty sees it, and she decides the situation must end. She wants Herbert dead. Through a meticulously planned mu..er, she appears to have pulled off the perfect crime. Together with Thomas Lohner, a senior executive at the firm, she kills her husband. Alcohol and pills found in the victim's system are intended to throw investigators off the scent. The plan also hinges on Betty being viewed as the victim of a violent assault by her husband and on a large sum of money going missing from the company coffers. Since no body is initially found, the police assume Herbert Theissen has gone into hiding after attacking his wife. The initial questioning by Detective Georg Wassenberg proceeds along these lines; he quickly classifies the attack on Betty as an attempted mu..er by her husband. However, Betty declines to press charges. It also becomes apparent that Wassenberg has taken a liking to Betty; he feels drawn to this woman who is both vulnerable and strong. Meanwhile, Betty’s plan seems to be working. When Herbert Theissen’s body is discovered by a pond, Detective Wassenberg quickly concludes it is a case of suicide. Yet one detail gives the detective pause: why would Herbert Theissen embezzle a large sum from the company only to take his own life? And why was the victim lying face-down in the water if the autopsy report indicates he had already died from a pill overdose? Detective Wassenberg’s young but sharp-witted assistant, Dina, is certain: Betty Theissen and Lohner killed Herbert Theissen together. Interrogations of Betty’s in-laws also point in this direction. However, Wassenberg refuses to accept this possibility—for he has fallen in love with Betty. And when he and Betty do indeed spend a passionate night together, Georg is completely captivated. He turns a blind eye to inconsistencies and to Mina’s warnings. But the situation comes to a head when he begins to suspect Lohner not only of being a rival for Betty’s affections but also of being the murderer. Georg accuses Lohner of the crime and threatens him with evidence. Shortly thereafter, Lohner vanishes. It is only late in the game that Wassenberg uncovers his lover’s gruesome secret.
Cheating Notes:
Betty kills her husband with the help of her lover, Thomas. Shortly thereafter, the lover is found dead (we learn this at the end of the film), but he had actually died much earlier—right after Detective Georg started investigating Betty.
Let me be clear: there is no cheating in this film because by the time George starts sleeping with Betty, her husband—and even the lover—is already dead.
It’s a shame, though, because Claudia Michelsen is naked in both sex scenes. I’m including the scene here anyway:

Conclusion: no cheating—Betty is a widow.
