I do not agree.
I think that because the woman loved her husband very much, she hid her illness and acted as if she had an affair so that her husband would go to another woman and not suffer.
Even remember the comment of the detective hired by her husband... she said "I couldn't find anything"!..
I took this comment from the events at the end of the movie.
