Saeko, a 27-year-old housewife without offsprings, loves reading books and often goes to a nearby library. She accidentally comes across a dirty magazine filled with pictures of naked women. Among the photos, she finds one of a young woman who seems different than all the others and, out of curiosity, decides to write to her. Through the correspondences, Saeko comes to understand herself.
Cheating Notes
The wife runs into an old college friend at a café (07:36).
On another day, the wife gets dizzy in front of the café, and her college friend helps her and walks her home (31:10). When she turns around as she is about to enter her front door, she sees him looking at her in a certain way.
The college friend visits the couple at their home (44:12). The wife decides to go pantyless under her skirt while entertaining their guest. Then, when they take a picture on the couch together, she sits in the middle and pulls them both closer, making Yoshioka's arm graze her breasts—which her husband notices and becomes wary of.
Perhaps finding some pleasure in entertaining their college friend pantyless, the wife starts going out without underwear (46:18). She comes to her husband's office and pleasures herself in a stall in the men's restroom while men come and go outside.
The college friend visits the wife while she is alone at home, supposedly to talk to her about his new book (56:49). He confesses that he has loved her since college and makes a move by trying to kiss her. She rejects him, saying she never liked him. This event triggers something in her; after he leaves, she goes to the grocery store wearing nothing inside her coat, getting close to a male clerk, seemingly getting a thrill from knowing that only a coat separates her naked body from him.
That night, the wife's drunk husband tells her that their college friend confessed to his attempt and apologized to him while crying. He also apologizes to his wife for suspecting that she was cheating on him with their friend. They have sex (1:03:08).
The morning after sex with her husband, the wife, in her monologue, says she is going to betray him. She then calls their college friend and offers to meet and make up at the place they frequented when they were in college (1:05:46). She then steps out of the house wearing her coat. We don't see what she put on underneath, leaving it to our imagination whether she is naked under it or not (she probably is). She walks, rides the train, gets off, and walks again toward her meeting place with her college friend, but then she suddenly becomes dizzy...
