Noble Savage, the Israeli drama based on the Dudu Busi’s novel by the same name (Pere Atzil, in Hebrew), captures the tragedy of the optimism of youth lost to the necessary caring for adults.
Summary
Eli, a 15-year-old struggling with an eating disorder, lives with his ex-junkie mother Sima, her boyfriend Yefet, and his alcoholic, eccentric father in a volatile environment where a trivial dispute ignites a catastrophic outcome.
In his run-down Tel Aviv neighbourhood, teenage Eli (Neveh Tzur) has no reason to be idealistic, yet has unchecked optimism about repairing his parents’ broken marriage. His mother, Sima (Liat Ekta), a recovering addict living with her new boyfriend, Yefet, and his father, Yom Tov (Alon Aboutboul), an alcoholic, live in the same complex, their lives intersecting while seeming worlds apart. Eli, who can barely keep together his unimportant young life, is set on taking care of his parents and scraping together normalcy by repairing the version of a family he deems desirable.
First of all, this movie is extremely depressing, and the ending is truly horrific.
Eli is sitting in the kitchen. His mother calls him. She's changing clothes, and she asks him to help her choose a dress. She's in her underwear.
Eli can't stand Yefet and will do everything he can to reunite his real parents. He will arrange a meeting for them. he suggests to his mother that she choose some revealing clothes for this date!
His father arrives and the date goes more or less well. At the end of the date, his mother tries to screw her ex-husband, but he pushes her away and leaves. Depressed, Sima starts dancing alone. Her boyfriend arrives, sees her like this, and gives her what she wants.
Eli comes home and as he walks down the hall, he sees his mother's body completely naked. He goes into his own room and starts masturbating!
The movie lasts 1:30 towards the end of the movie sima relapses into drugs one evening Eli comes home and finds her unconscious. He thinks she's overdosed. He rushes to the bathroom, picks her up, then starts shaking her and yells her name. Her towel falls off (she's naked). She wakes up and asks him to stop calling her "Sima" and calling her "mom" instead and to feed (suck her breast) - she actually used the word feed! Which he does, and they have sex.
The next day, she asks him to erase from his memory what happened the day before and act as if nothing had happened. Furious or disappointed, (he must have developed an Oedipus complex from seeing her naked all the time) Eli informs Yefet that his mother cheated on him, without specifying that it was with him. (It's screwed up. but I think her boyfriend would have forgiven her) This will have huge repercussions on his mother. which leads to her...
