Plot

The filming of the Mexican director's fifth feature film stretched over three years. The casting for the lead actor didn't satisfy the director, so he took on the role himself after only two weeks of filming. Similarly, the role of the second lead was given to Natalia López Gallardo, Reygadas' wife, after an audition of 300 professional and amateur actresses. Reygadas stated that the script was over 150 pages long, with the first cut exceeding four hours; the final film runs 2 hours and 23 minutes.

Juan, for his part, can handle it as long as he hears how things are going, but when Natalia stops giving him information, the dynamic quickly shifts, forcing Juan to examine his fragile masculinity.
It tells the story of a family dedicated to raising bulls. The ranch, located in Mexico, is managed by Ester (Natalia López) and Juan (Carlos Reygadas), a poet and the owner of the property. Although married, they have an open relationship, with Ester having sex with an American man who has recently arrived. Out of nowhere, Juan begins to suspect that his wife is seeking more than just sex with the stranger, triggering personal conflicts. One of the first scenes shows a group of children playing in the mud, and later, a group of teenagers chatting and getting into mischief. Ester is in charge of training and maintaining the bulls, demonstrating her skill to the guests. To try to prove his strength, Juan also attempts to tame the bulls, only to fail and become embarrassed, just as his relationship with Juan, which he thought he could control, is now spiraling out of control.

There is an Easter Egg of a fellatio by Natalia Lopez. Unless you have a quick eye you would miss it. Around the 00:16:17 mark (In the full movie, the scene takes place at 00:59:44.), while she is driving down the road there is a shot of the car wheel shaft. As the shot continues Natalia's face profile with an open mouth fades in onto the wheel with the wheel shaft suggesting an erect penis. As the scene is dark in the original shot there is no indication she has a real penis in her mouth and not just an implied one. But in the enhanced view she actually does. Very artistically done by the filmmaker (Carlos Reygadas) in sneaking this one into the movie...I wonder if there are other films that are also sneaking in these Easter Eggs.
When she lets the penis fall out of her mouth it's the real thing as you can see the hairs on the guy's leg.

Towards the end of the film, Juan desperately wants to see Esther in the arms of Phil, her lover. He climbs onto the windowsill and sees her giving him a blowjob.

Seeing their complicity, Juan can't help but start lamenting to Phil!
He tells him he's just realized his wife never loved him.
At this precise moment, Esther comes out of the bathroom making a silent gesture with her finger, ordering him to shut his mouth. (humiliating him even more and letting him know that she doesn’t care about his emotions)
This movie is full of symbolism starting with the fact that the couple raises bulls.
A 'bull' typically refers to a dominant male who engages with a couple where the female partner is submissive, and the male partner derives pleasure from her engagement with the bull.
