It is 1948 in LA and Ezikeal "Easy" Rawlins, an African-American World War II veteran, is looking for work. At his friend's bar, he is introduced to a white man, DeWitt Albright, who is looking for someone to help him find a missing white woman assumed to be hiding somewhere in LA's Black community. This woman, Daphne Monet, happens to be the fiancée of a wealthy "blue blood," Todd Carter, who is currently the favorite in the city's mayoralty race. Daphne Monet is known to frequent the Black jazz clubs in LA. Easy, innocently, accepts Albright's offer; however, he quickly finds himself amidst murder, crooked cops, ruthless politicians, and brutalizing hoodlums. This is a Chandler-esque "who-done-it" with an African-American theme.
Cheating Notes
At 19:35, a black chick rides Easy's (Denzel Washington) dick on the couch while her boyfriend (also Easy's friend) lies passed-out drunk in the next room. Earlier than that, she was already flirting with him at the club. Also, listen to their dialog after they carry her boyfriend to the bedroom.
At 38:40, a sexy flirty exchange of words happens between Easy and Daphne Monet, the missing white woman who is the fiancee of a rich potential mayoralty candidate and who is rumored to be having affairs with black men, especially the thug Frank Green. When he asks her what weapon she prefers, she replies, "Why don't you search me and find out?" while looking kind of seductively at him. He approaches her, having two minds if he'll give in to her seduction and search her, but in the end, decides against it. At 1:16:08, she tries to kiss him, but he rejects her.
(Spoiler) At 1:10:30, the chick who humped Easy on the couch is already dead, and her boyfriend is telling him that the police said her assailant tried to rape her but she fought him. The boyfriend says that it's because she wouldn't have nobody but him. Hearing this, Easy looks down on the floor because based on his very personal experience, she did let somebody other than her boyfriend have her.
An excellent 90's film-noir.
