Plot - Deux Pianos is a 2025 French romantic drama directed by Arnaud Desplechin in which Mathias, a virtuoso pianist who has lived in self-imposed exile in Asia for years, returns to his hometown of Lyon at the invitation of Elena, his elderly mentor, to perform a series of concerts alongside her. His return is immediately destabilized when he encounters a young boy who looks exactly like him — his mirror image — and the mystery of this offspring leads him straight back to Claude, the great love of his youth, who is now married to another man. The film becomes a love triangle of impossible desire as Mathias tries to reclaim what he once lost, knowing full well that Claude belongs to someone else and that lies and self-deception are the only currency that keeps such connections alive.
