Cheating Scenes in The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946)

When the drifter steps inside the roadside restaurant, he isn’t sure yet if he wants to stay and work there. But when he sees the wife of the owner and notices how hot she is, he decides to stay.

From the very start, tension is high between the wife and the drifter. After a little argument with the wife on his first day in the cafe, the drifter immediately goes for it and kisses the wife. The wife just shrugs off his kiss and wipes the smudge off her lips using a cloth and her little makeup mirror, showing him that his attempt at kissing doesn’t mean a thing to her. Then she just walks away emotionless. It’s just too soon for the drifter, I guess. But the wife didn’t tell her husband, though.

Days pass and the wife is still giving the drifter an attitude. However, she starts warming up to him when he is able to convince her husband about her idea that the sign of their restaurant should be replaced.

When the new sign is put up, they have a little celebration. The husband plays his guitar and asks his wife to do a little dance for them. She tells him she feels silly dancing alone and that he should dance with her. The husband doesn’t want to, so the drifter asks him if he can dance with his wife, instead. The wife lets out an expression of panic and tells some excuses, but the husband says yes, so she dances with the drifter.

The drifter and the wife do a slow dance and hold each other. They stare at each other’s eyes. After a while, their faces get really close that it seems they are about to kiss in front of the husband. When his nose is touching hers, and his lips get really close to hers, she closes her eyes, getting caught in the moment. She realizes what’s happening and releases herself from his embrace and turns off the jukebox.

The wife then tells her husband that she wants to go swimming that same night. The husband says that’s a good idea but that he couldn’t come. The drifter tags along, with the permission of the husband, and they build more rapport while swimming in the ocean.

When they come back from the beach and just before coming inside the house, the wife’s growing fondness towards the drifter really shows as she is all smiles when she talks to him. She even offers to make pie for him tomorrow. The husband comes out of the house, thinking that they are customers. When he sees that it’s just them, he comes back in again. After he is out of sight, the drifter makes his move. He grabs the wife by the waist and starts to kiss her. The wife says “Please don’t.” but when she looks straight at his eyes, she gets lost and warmly accepts his kiss. But she doesn’t make it last and comes inside the house.

The next day, the husband is out. There’s a single customer around lunch time. The drifter wants him to leave so that he can mess around with the wife, so he stares at him like he is not welcome anymore. The customer gets this and leaves. The drifter locks the front door to the restaurant and goes to the kitchen where the wife is. They have a talk about how she was being chased by not just a lot of guys, but all of the guys when she wasn’t married yet on account of her being ridiculously hot. And why she chose an old man to marry despite of all the men who lust for her. She says she doesn’t want how hot she looks sometimes, but that she hasn’t met a man since she was 14 that didn’t want to argue about it. They kiss, and I assume they have sex as well, but that isn’t shown.

The wife tries to leave with the drifter that same day. But while they are on the road, she changes her mind and comes back, talking about how she would not get any money if her husband divorces her and about not wanting to start from the ground again.

When they’re back at the couple’s home, the wife treats the drifter like nothing happened between them. But she couldn’t resist for too long and she comes inside his room one night. She asks him how much he loves her, then this is where she starts proposing to him about murdering her husband.
