Cheating Scenes in The Last King of Scotland (2006)
The Scottish Dr. Nicholas Garrigan (James McAvoy) goes to Uganda to do voluntary service as a doctor to poor people there. In the village where he is assigned to, he meets the white couple Dr. Merrit and his wife Sarah (Gillian Anderson).
Nicholas tries to bang Dr. Merrit’s wife
One day, Dr. Merrit is away from the village. Nicholas tells Sarah to accompany him to watch the newly-elected Ugandan President (Forest Whitaker) make a speech. They have a run-in with him on the road while on the way home, in which Nicholas is able to give first aid to his injury and therefore gain favors from him.
When they arrive at his place at night time, Nicholas tells Sarah to stay for a while and have a drink with him. Sarah smiles but she refuses and says she has to go. Nicholas takes her hand and pulls her out to the porch and tells her that it’s fine because they’re just going to have a drink.
Sarah is aware of what the situation is. She looks at his eyes, then at their hands which are still holding each other. She says she can’t do this because her husband is a good man. That she’s there right now in his place because when you’re married to a very good man, it makes you feel like shit and so a little attention would be nice. But apparently, a little attention is all she needs and nothing else. Because when Nicholas tries to kiss her (and he is able to for a few seconds), she stops it and leaves.
Nicholas is introduced to the president’s wives
During a state dinner, the president introduces Nicholas to his three wives. Among the three, the third wife (Kerry Washington) is the youngest, prettiest and most fuckable.
One day, Nicholas is called to the third wife’s home to attend to her son’s epilepsy. This gains him points with her.
During a cultural show, Nicholas can’t help but throw several lingering glances at the third wife. The president notices this but does not do anything at this point. Nicholas smiles at her, but she doesn’t really smile back, maybe trying to be careful in front of the public eye and her husband’s.
The wife lowers her guard down and shows she likes Nicholas
Nicholas and the wife meet next at a public pool. She is there with her two sons. She is very warm to him, most likely because of him giving medical aid to her son earlier. They talk a bit while she’s in the water and in her bikinis. As a parting gesture, she gives him a very nice smile paired with an extended silent gaze. I don’t think you can confuse that with anything other than attraction towards him.
Nicholas and the wife meet at a pool party
There is a pool party during night time. Nicholas, the president, his third wife, and other people are there. The president introduces Nicholas to some broad, but he is not really interested and goes to the bar to drink alone.
At the bar, the third wife approaches him. Maybe because he is already a bit drunk, he feels bold and exclaims to her, “Jesus fucking Christ, you look so lovely.” The wife is more surprised than flattered at his boldness.
At this point in the movie, Nicholas is already bothered by the president’s nefarious activities. He starts telling the wife about his dilemma. He starts crying and tells her that he fucked up. The wife says “Not here. Walk with me.”
So Nicholas walks with the wife across the party. They are even holding each other’s hands when they think no one is nearby. The broad that the president introduces to Nicholas earlier looks for him and starts calling his name loudly from across the pool.
Nicholas tries to hide from the broad, using the wife’s body as partial cover, putting his arm around her shoulder, etc. The wife gets in a playful mode with him, takes his hand and tells him to follow her so that they can find a hiding place. I think the broad sees them going away as it seems that she looks at their direction.
Nicholas bangs the president’s third wife.
The wife brings Nicholas to a secluded room. They remain touchy with each other. Then they stare at each other’s eyes. Nicholas says “Fuck it,” and kisses her. After pushing him initially, she also kisses him back. They fuck in the room. He does her standing up while her back is against a cave wall.
After fucking, they talk for a bit on the bed. Then someone knocks loudly at the door and shouting frantically too. The wife gets nervous and asks Nicholas what if someone saw them. He tells her to wait two minutes to come out after him.
Apparently, the president is playing a musical instrument and Nicholas, the wife, and everybody have to watch.
Now how did they know that Nicholas was in that room? Or was it the wife they’re looking for? It was probably the broad who told them. The president probably knows that they fucked during this time, but we can only assume. What we know is in the last part of the film, the president tells Nicholas that he knows about their affair, but not particularly this night.
Nicholas also accidentally impregnates the wife, which brings terrible consequences.
