Cafundó is a 35 mm color film which blends fact with fiction in the life of João de Camargo, a former black slave (1858-1942, Sorocaba, Brazil) who, in his old age, works miracles and devotes himself to assisting others in order to attain his freedom. João de Camargo represents the genesis of religious and cultural syncretism in Brazil.

Cheating Notes

Joao, a black man, sees Rosario, a white woman, dancing at a festival and falls in love with her (32:05). The feeling is mutual and they have sex beside a river and get married. However, Rosario isn't so satisfied with the farming life that Joao has given her.

When the couple goes to the town to sell their produce, a white man who gives Rosario water smells her hair and shoulder from behind and hits on her (42:59). He tells her that she's a beautiful woman and she smells good, but that she's such a waste because she's shacking up with a black man. She angrily throws water at him.

One day, Joao comes home and finds Rosario getting fucked from behind in the barn (47:00). The guy who is fucking her is the white man who gave her water earlier in town. Joao shouts Rosario's name in anger and chases her and her lover away with a whip.
