A housewife with two kids and a police officer husband, meets an acquaintance who comes to live in the apartment next door. He is also a cop.
Paula loves two men: her husband, Captain Clair, heroic, discreet, often absent, and her lover, Major Wigner, a bruised fighter who suddenly discovers in the arms of this woman the possible taste of happiness and the hope of appeasement. During an intervention, the major falls under the bullets of a madman and the captain suffers a cardiac arrest. Only a transplant can save him.

At the beginning of the movie, we see policemen Major Wigner and Captain Clair fall down during a police operation, with Major Wigner clearly getting shot. They get hospitalized and as the movie goes along, flashbacks are shown as to how Paula, Captain Clair's wife, got on an affair with Major Wigner.
Major Wigner becomes next-door neighbor with Paula and her husband, Captain Clair, who is usually not at home. After some neighborly and more-than-neighborly interactions between Paula and Wigner, they fall for each other. They have sex at 34:42.
During a company party, Captain Clair notices an intimate moment between Paula and Major Wigner (Wigner approaches Paula and they gaze at each other meaningfully).
At 59:10, Paula and Major Wigner meet in a park and kiss.
