Summer of 1939. Zosia is a young Polish girl who is deeply in love with Ukrainian Petro. Their great love will be put to the test when her father decides to marry her to a wealthy widower Skiba. Right after her wedding, she is left alone because her husband is drafted into the Polish army for the war with Germany. Meanwhile, tensions grow due to Jews, Poles, and Ukrainians living side by side.

Cheating Notes

Zosia has a boyfriend named Petro but is married off by her father to an old man in exchange for land. Petro is drafted into the war and later returns from the front line. One day, he sneaks into the couple's barn and surprises Zosia when she comes in. They start kissing. Her husband enters the barn so they have to stop and hide temporarily. When the husband exits, they start making out again and then have sex while standing up without removing their clothes.
