After the death of his mother, fortysomething introvert Mathieu enters into a second relationship with his high-school girlfriend, Maya, who is now married.
Cheating Notes
Mathieu Liévan is a successful architect in the city and in business with his wife Lisa (Arly Jover) who returns to his rural hometown to visit his dying mother. He sees his former girlfriend Maya (Valeria Bruni-Tedeshi) who has moved back there from Africa with her daughter from a previous marriage and new husband Franck (Phillip Katerine). Mathieu and Maya soon resume their long-lost love with an illicit affair.
The lovers' first sex is at her house (16:00, dark scene). They are still naked on the couch when her husband arrives in the evening. They have to get dressed quickly in order to not get caught, after which they have dinner with her husband.
The two meet and kiss in a bookstore (38:45) and then they go to a hotel where they make out some more in the doorway and then have sex in bed (shoulder and headshot only).
Maya starts getting guilty about her affair with Mathieu. At 59:00, she comes to the hotel where they are supposed to meet but doesn't come up to his room. He comes down and talks to her in the lobby. She tells him that she's starting to hate the lying and the excuses (to her husband) and the adultery they're committing. He kisses her and she gets carried away and starts kissing him back. His wife calls and interrupts them. She takes this opportunity to drive away but she changes her mind and comes back and has sex with him in his hotel room. There's a pumping scene but it's a headshot again, but we do see her boobs in the bathtub after.
Maya starts avoiding Mathieu and a few weeks later, he finds her and talks to her in a train station. She talks about going to Chile with her husband and daughter. He tries to convince her to stay and kisses her several times. She again gets carried away and kisses him back but she is able to eventually pull away from him and board the train.
Mathieu becomes more obsessed with Maya, even neglecting his poor wife in pursuit of her.
