Kato is a small time TV producer. He has a wife Masako, and a young son Taro. Kato also has a friend Yamazaki who he knew since college. Yamazaki has a girl friend Riko who lives with her younger sister Yuko who's an actress. Yamazaki is a lyric writer/womanizer and he starts to have an affair with Masako, but he's still going out with Riko.
Cheating Notes
Kato, along with his wife Masako, goes to a bar he used to frequent and reunites with his college pal Yamazaki, who is now a lyric writer/womanizer. The couple welcomes Yamazaki that night at their place. When Kato goes to sleep first, Yamazaki squeezes Masako's boob in the living room while they listen to one of his written songs (11:47).
Yamazaki calls the couple's place, hoping to talk to Masako to invite her out. When it's Kato who first answers the phone, Yamazaki tells him "Oh, it's you.", in a disappointing way. "What do you mean by that?", asks Kato. Nevertheless, he gives the phone to his wife, not knowing what Yamazaki's real intent in calling her is.
Masako goes on a date with Yamazaki. They drink in a bar and have sex in a hotel room (33:13).
Yamazaki has dinner with the couple at their place. After Kato and the couple's son leave the dining table, Yamazaki touches Masako's face and tries to put his hand inside her shirt to caress her boobs but she stops her.
After Masako drops her son off at school, she has sex with Yamazaki at her place (54:24). They do it twice, in the living room and in the bedroom.
While Yamazaki is still at Masako's place, her husband, who is supposed to be gone for a few days, unexpectedly arrives. Kato doesn't catch them in the act because the door is chained from the inside, but they have to think of a reason to tell him why Yamazaki is there. Masako then tells her husband that Yamazaki arrived there earlier drunk, and looking for him so she just let him in. At first, it looks like Kato doesn't suspect a thing and is civil towards Yamazaki, but after the latter leaves, he shows Masako that he knows that an affair has started between them through the expression on his face.
Masako comes to Yamazaki's place and has sex with him (1:15:00). Her husband calls her there, wanting to talk to her but she doesn't want to, so he asks Yamazaki to meet him instead to talk about Masako's infidelity.
Kato is civil to Yamazaki when they meet, but when Yamazaki tells him that it's all about sex and not love between him and Masako (though Masako seems to fall in love with him and has expressed her desire to leave Kato), that's when Kato gets mad, throwing alcohol on his face and telling him how stupid he is for stealing another man's wife.
Kato confronts Masako and tells him that they should just start over since he too also had an affair. He thinks that Masako cheated on him because she knew about his affair and is getting her revenge. But when Masako tells him that she doesn't know about his affair, then that's when he gets mad. He hits Masako and rapes her.
Riko, Yamazaki's girlfriend, also cheats on him more than once but we don't see her actual lovemaking with the guys.
Summary
Not bad for its genre and time, as this movie has more drama and not just all sleazy sex compared to its peers, which makes it more erotic.
