Cheating Notes

Dr. Tokito is having an affair with the wife of the president of his company. We don't see them kiss or have sex and the only time and the most we see them physically intimate with each other is in a series of photos, where they are hugging and being happy together (1:43:02).

Meanwhile, Akagi, a young cop, is still in love with his ex-girlfriend Nakai, who is now the girlfriend of Kentarou, a crime boss who is much older than her.

After some plot development, we find Akagi, Nakai and Kentarou in the same hotel room. Kentarou, who is informed that the two are an ex-couple, excuses himself and tells them to work things out while he spends time at the spa (48:05). This leaves it ambiguous whether he meant working things out through conversation or through something more intimate, like kissing or sex.

Left by themselves in the room, Akagi and Nakai have a make-out session on the couch (57:50). They are still in an embrace when Kentarou returns. The shot is framed so that we don't know if he actually sees them in that position, but based on the full room layout in the next few scenes, it seems that he almost certainly saw them embracing when he walked in. Does this mean that when he told them to work things out, he was actually giving them permission to be physically intimate? After all, he wants Akagi, a cop, to work for him, so letting him make out with Nakai might just be a way to sweeten the deal.
