An estranged couple on a weekend retreat are pushed further apart when the wife, Becca, becomes romantically fascinated with the journal of the cabin's long-dead former owner. When the ghost of the old owner appears and reciprocates Becca's feelings, the web of betrayals and untruths between Becca and her husband begins to unravel.
Cheating Notes
In the beginning, Becca encounters her husband's best friend in a bar. He flirts with her and it ends up with her telling him that she needs to be fucked. They get up and I guess they have sex after that but it is not shown.
We see brief flashbacks of Becca having sex with a guy in the first half of the film. She is on top of him and in her bra and panties. He doesn't seem to be her husband Guy, nor his best friend, but the ghost whom she will still meet later.
Becca and Guy go to a cabin. It's Guy's idea. Becca is not very cooperative. She doesn't want to go hike with him for example, and would rather just stay in the cabin to read the diary of Jasper, the long-dead former owner of the cabin. Jasper's ghost begins showing himself to her. They talk and start getting closer.
Becca and Guy have an intense argument. We learn that Becca feels trapped in their relationship. Guy walks away with a bottle of wine in his hand and meets Clair, Jasper's wife, in the woods. She's a ghost, too.
Becca finally agrees to go hiking with Guy. They pitch a tent somewhere along the path during nighttime. Guy wakes up in the middle of the night and finds that Becca left him alone in the tent. Becca comes back to the cabin and has a little makeout session with Jasper. They are interrupted when Guy returns. The couple argues again, but it ends up with them having sex while standing up while Jasper watches (Guy doesn't know but Becca does and she just smiles at Jasper while he's watching).
In the end part of the film, Becca fucks Jasper in the cabin. Clair also fucks Guy in the woods as a sort of revenge and also to encourage Guy to kill Becca for cheating on him. Thankfully, the sex scenes here of both cheating pairs are quite long, which kinda makes up for the lack of them during the bulk of the film's run time.
Overall, this movie is a psychological thriller and I think that the ghost couple Jasper and Clair are not really ghosts but only exist in Becca's mind.
