After getting into a serious car accident, a TV director discovers an underground sub-culture of scarred, omnisexual car-crash victims who use car accidents and the raw sexual energy they produce to try to rejuvenate his sex life with his wife.

James and his wife Catherine, who are already in an open relationship, are drawn into a small group of odd characters who are sexually aroused by automobile crashes. Spader discovers this when he hits a couple's car head-on, killing the husband. He and the widow become lovers, meeting in a parking garage, and having sex in a parked car. The widow introduces him to her crash-loving group which is headed by a guy named Vaughan.
At the beginning of the film, Catherine fucks a man in a private hangar, beside a plane, while James, a movie producer, fucks a camera girl in the camera room during a movie's filming. The couple talks about their trysts when they get home.
At 1:02:52, Catherine has sex with Vaughan in the backseat of the car while they are inside a carwash. Her husband who is driving the car watches them through the rearview mirror.
