Jailed for prostituting a minor, the married Immacolata meets the lesbian Concetta in prison and becomes her lover. Back in Pomigliano d'Arco , the women continue their relationship, challenging male hostility, family conveniences and social taboos. When Immacolata becomes pregnant with a creditor who blackmailed her, Concetta - feeling betrayed - kills her with a blunt weapon.
This is an uneven presentation of the tragedies plaguing the lives of two women from the lower economic strata in Naples. Immacolata is married, is bisexual, and runs a butcher shop that is not bringing in much money. Concetta is a lesbian, doing manual labor and now serving time for taking a potshot at her lover’s husband. Immacolata has also been put in jail for guiding a young woman into prostitution. Immacolata and Concetta become lovers in prison and after being released, they defy Immacolata’s husband and society’s scorn by moving in together. But external threats are not as destructive, in the end, as internal contradictions.
Cheating Notes
At 13:00, Immacolata demonstrates to the minor how to pleasure the creditor and she gives him a blowjob herself in front of her. This happens at her place, in her bedroom, when she invites the creditor and his wife over to have dinner with her and her husband. The creditor's wife, who fell asleep earlier on a couch, enters the room and catches them in the act.
Immacolata's own husband reports her and she is jailed for prostituting the minor. She meets Concetta inside prison and begins a lesbian affair with her (no scenes inside the prison are shown). After they get out, they continue their affair and have lesbian sex at least two times (24:46 and 1:23:56).
Immacolata starts an affair with the creditor when she is already living with Concetta. They have sex at 1:01:50 and a post-coital dialog in bed at 1:11:30.
