In Corinth, a dying town 15 miles from Pittsburgh: One evening, a Japanese businessman, who wanted to tear down the closed iron mills to build an amusement park, is found half dead in his mill. Bellboy Barry admits to have done it - in self-defense. Chief Ruhle interrogates him and Sugito's young wife and business partners, but it takes a while until he gets through the maze of apparently contradictory statements.

The wife (Bridget Fonda) and bellboy's main sex scenes are at 45:50 (bar) and 50:37 (car). At 1:08:33, their sex in the car is shown again as recalled by the husband. Apparently, he called his wife on the car phone and she accidentally removes its receiver from the hook with her foot while she is humping on top of the bellboy, which leads to her husband hearing her moans.
In the first 30 minutes of the film, we see the bellboy kissing the wife by force inside her hotel room (19:20) and then raping her in an abandoned mill (27:10). This is the initial testimony of the wife to the cop and it turns out to be false.
