A young man and a young woman from the same hometown reunite in the big city and sleep together one night. But, the woman reveals the following day that she is engaged to someone else. She then follows it up with a letter, telling him that she is actually already married: to an older guy who has a mistress of his own.
The woman tells her husband about her lover and starts living with the latter. When her relationship with the young man becomes complicated because he starts getting jealous of her seeing and talking to her husband, she starts dating the young man's friend/co-worker, and so near the end of the film, she goes out with the two of them together in a carnival, toying with them, making each of them jealous, which leads to the young man jumping off a bridge and onto an incoming train below.
